Frequently Asked
Plain answers, straight from the shop.
If your question isn't here, call Kelly: +1 (936) 436-3884. He answers between sawing.
Are the wagons really built by hand?
Yes. Kelly works white oak with steam, forges the iron banding on the anvil in the shop, and hand-stitches the leather seating. A wagon takes about six months from raw lumber to first ride.
There's no factory line. There are tool marks on every wagon. They're intentional.
What does “accessible” actually mean on a Healin' Wheels wagon?
Two integrated wheelchair tie-downs in the bed of every wagon, an integrated low-angle ramp built into the rear gate (same white oak, same finish), and a low-step entry on either side.
It is not a grey hydraulic lift bolted onto the back. Accessibility is in the silhouette.
Is Healin' Wheels a 501(c)(3)?
Healin' Wheels is a Texas non-profit corporation. Our application for 501(c)(3) recognition is pending with the IRS. Until that recognition is granted, we cannot represent that contributions are tax-deductible.
If recognition is granted, the IRS generally treats tax-exempt status as effective from the date of formation, and qualified gifts made during the pending period are deductible on that basis. Please consult your own tax advisor. We'll send a real letter and a receipt for every gift, and a formal IRS-compliant acknowledgement once recognition is granted.
Can we host a Healin' Wheels wagon at our event?
Once the first wagon is built, yes. Email or call Kelly to talk about the date and the kind of event — rodeos, parades, county fairs, ranch reunions. Most events will be in Texas; we'll travel for the right one. The workshop has not yet completed its first build, so dates beyond 2027 are firmer than dates near-term.
Do you do custom builds?
The workshop intends to take a small number of commissioned builds each year once the first wagons are complete. We are not currently selling wagons or quoting custom work; nothing on this site is for sale. If you want to be in the queue when commissions open, call Kelly and we'll add your inquiry to the workshop list.
How do I volunteer?
Two ways. Come work in the shop — we'll teach you a piece of the craft. Or drive a wagon at an event. Both start by calling Kelly.
